Chinese smartphones in India that you should know about
India's Technology News, Analysis, Reviews, Videos, Downloads, Products

India's smartphone market has been booming for quite some time now, and a host of manufacturers are scrambling to match the demand. While there are significant local players like Micromax catering to the need, quite a few foreign companies have also been getting into the action.

And the list comes with quite a few Chinese companies that have evolved from the "China phone" phase to give us quite a few good handsets to pick from. We decided to take a look at some of the well known companies in the Indian market and the kind of devices they bring to the table:

Lenovo:
Gone are the days when Lenovo was only known in India for its line-up of tablet computers and work stations. The company has now rolled out a bunch of new smartphones for the market as well. And the line-up is pretty expansive, ranging from high-end premium products to budget smartphones.

In the high-end range, the company gives us the Lenovo K900. Priced at Rs 28,999, the device comes with a 5.5-inch IPS display, a dual-core Intel Atom processor clocked at 2GHz, Jelly Bean 4.2 running inside and a 13-megapixel camera. You can check out our review of the device to know more.

Going down the list, we have models like the S920 and the S890, which are priced at Rs 26,399 and Rs 19,800 respectively. Users can also opt for the P series, which comes with devices like the P780, priced at Rs 18,869 and the P770, priced at Rs 16,499. You can also pick from the A series, with the latest products being the A269i and the A369i, although the company has not yet announced the prices for these.

Huawei:
Another company that comes with smartphones, feature phones as well as tablets, is Huawei. And the line-up is almost as expansive as the one saw with Lenovo. A significant player on the company's list is the Ascend series, coming with a bunch of products for aspirants to choose from, depending on their budget.

One of the devices that stood out in the list is the Ascend P1, which comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display. Internally, the device comes with dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz as well as 8-megapixel BSI camera. The only drawback that we could see of the phone was that it runs on Android 4.0 i.e. Ice Cream Sandwich.

Another option that you can look at is the Ascend Mate, which comes with a 6.1-inch HD IPS display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel BSI camera. The device is priced at Rs 24,900 in India.  A device that the company has been touting for a while is the Ascend P6. While there is no mention of when the device will actually be coming to India and at what price, it should definitely be worth a look at.

Gionee:
Gionee, which is now becoming a relatively known name in the Indian market, recently launched the company's latest Elife E6. You can check out our review of the new handset to know more. But the company's product list is just as long as any that we have seen so far on the list and you can pick from either smartphones or feature phones for your communication needs.

Some other products that you can pick from include the Elife E3, priced at Rs 14,999. For the money that you are shelling out, you get a 4.7-inch HD screen, a quad-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter.

If you are in the market for a large screen handset with a relatively cheaper price tag, you can also look at the company's GPad 2 device. Priced at Rs 10,999, the device comes with a 5.3-inch qHD IPS display, a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and runs of Jelly Bean 4.1. You also have an 8-megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash as well as a 2-megapixel shooter. Overall, it looks like the company's devices range across most price categories and comes with pretty decent specifications.

These are not the only Chinese smartphone manufacturers that are eyeing the Indian market. Oppo, known for its range of well priced phones that comes with good specifications, will also be launching one of its handsets, the Find 5, in the country soon. Overall, these products, which have been around for some time now, are well priced and packed with pretty decent features. Users looking for a new device for themselves should definitely check out some of these products.
