The Supreme Court on Thursday pulled up the CBI for its slow inquiry into the coal block allocation scam.
The apex court said the CBI had to pick up speed for concluding the probe against all the 169 companies allegedly involved in the scam.

In response, the CBI assured the court that it would complete the probe in four to five months.
The Supreme Court also criticized the Centre on missing files pertaining to coal blocks allocation and asked why a FIR has not been lodged for the missing coal documents.

It's too mild a statement, the apex court said after Centre submitted that there was some controversy about the documents.

It also said that the Centre cannot sit over the documents which must be provided to CBI.
The court asked the Centre to supply all outstanding documents sought by the CBI within two weeks after a list is given by the agency.

Further, it also said that a CBI inquiry will be conducted in case the government fails to trace the missing documents, to which the Centre agreed.
