Syria destroys chemical weapons equipment

Syria has destroyed all its equipment for the production of chemical weapons ahead of a November 1 deadline, the international watchdog overseeing the process announced.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said its joint mission with the United Nations "is now satisfied that it has verified — and seen destroyed — all of Syria's declared critical production and mixing/filling equipment." The OPCW—UN mission had been unable to inspect two of Syria's 23 declared sites for security reasons, but their equipment had been transferred to other sites which were inspected, the organisation said.
